Aapril Tax Service Inc. has been serving Lake County since 1993. After 30 years downtown Waukegan we moved to Gurnee. We are a family-owned and operated business. This allows us to keep our prices reasonable and our service friendly. We are open year-round, although our off-season hours are limited.
Meet Our Staff
Julie A Wrobel-Eckard, Enrolled Agent, AFSP:
Office Manager and Accountant
Julie started preparing taxes full time when Gary opened the first Aapril Tax Service office in 1993. She took over the office from him in 1994 and became the Office Manager. In 2009 she passed the IRS Enrolled Agent exam. She has a BS degree in accounting from Barat College and is our head accountant.
Gary K Eckard, AFSP:
Sr. Tax Preparer
Gary has been preparing taxes for over 30 years. He started his career preparing tax returns at Beneficial Bank in the ’80s. He also started doing bookkeeping for small businesses at that time. He is our Corporation, LLC & Partnership expert.
After 40+ years of going to client's home he now works out of the Gurnee office with the rest of the staff.
Tania Ortiz, AFSP:
Tax Preparer, Jr. Bookkeeper Habla Español
Tania has been with Aapril Tax Service since 2009. She works mainly with our Spanish-speaking clients. In 2025 she started helping out with our bookkeeping clients.
Karla Carolos, AFSP:
Administrator and Sr. Bookkeeper, Habla Español
Karla has been with Aapril Tax Service since 2006. She handles the front desk and answers the phones. She also helps Julie with all of the accounting clients.
During the off-season, she is also Julie’s Spanish translator.
In Memory of Bones McCoy Eckard:
Security, CGC (Canine Good Citizen)
Bones was with Aapril Tax Service since Julie adopted him in 2010 until his passing December 3, 2022. He loved greeting our clients and our clients enjoyed having him in the office as well. We miss our boy greatly.
